I think for the online gamer, this will be fun in practice. *throws concerned glance towards those who have played the demo* So, um, is the game fun in practice, or just in theory? I'm definitely getting this one as soon as I can. Similar enough to not throw out all that was good about what came before, but new enough to not seem like a stale rehash. It seems like an excellent evolution of the series. The 3D models look nice, and don't seem overly blocky, and the meteor strike is really, really cool.

It's absolutely beautiful to look at, and there are even huge sharks visible swimming around just under the surface of the water in places.

It's functionally the same as AOE2, so if you know how to control and manage the previous versions this one is no problem, however they've really done a lot of nice tweaks and updates to the engine. In short, if it screws up while switching modes, change your desktop to 1024x768x16, start the demo, change the demo settings to whatever you want, and then set your desktop back to normal.

Setting my desktop to 1024x768x16 allowed the demo to start without problems and from there I was able to change the demo to 32 bit color, exit, reset my desktop to my preferred res and color depth and then run AOM.

I installed it, started it up, watched the short opening movie and then got a 'Failed to initialize' error when it tried to start the regular game.ДЄnyway, after much annoyance and a little digging I found that the game was trying to start in 1024x768x16 mode, and I was running 1024x768x32 in Windows. My first attempt at a download failed, but the second worked.
